Advanced system for the prediction of possibly hazardous situations in infants

An unobtrusive baby monitoring system, capable of detecting and preventing pathological conditions, potentially hazardous to children under one year of age

The xVLEPSIS project proposes the design and implementation of an integrated scalable system for detecting possible pathological conditions for infants, using a ‘smart’ bed mattress and a camera fixed to the infant cradle, without disturbing baby sleep. The goal of the xVLEPSIS team is to create a system that will effectively notify the parents and enable doctors to identify specific pathologies. The system will continuously and unobtrusively record important biosignals and analyze them using sophisticated machine learning algorithms, suitable for pathology-specific pattern identification and biomarker extraction. The software to be developed will act as a recommendation and alarming system notifying the parents and/ or the physician, if needed, by means of a notification center hosted in a smartphone and/ or a smartwatch. A dedicated repository will host raw signals for future reference.

Integration of pioneering non-invasive sensors guarantees the system’s efficiency while ensuring seamless baby sleep, which is essential for proper child development.
